API Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 30 December 2025

These API Terms and Conditions ("API Terms") govern access to and use of the Pet Trace Application Programming Interface ("API"), provided by Humaka SRL as part of the Pet Trace platform. By requesting access to or using the Pet Trace API, you agree to comply with these API Terms in addition to the general Terms of Service .

1. Purpose of the API

The Pet Trace API is designed to allow approved platforms to verify whether a pet microchip is registered within the Pet Trace database. The API exists to support responsible pet identification, reunification efforts, and interoperability between trusted systems.

2. Eligibility and Access

API access is granted at our discretion and typically intended for websites, applications, veterinary systems, shelters, and other professional or organizational platforms. Access credentials must not be shared, transferred, or exposed publicly.

We reserve the right to approve, deny, suspend, or revoke API access at any time, without prior notice, particularly in cases of misuse, abuse, or violation of these API Terms.

3. Free Usage and Fair Use Policy

The Pet Trace API is provided free of charge for responsible and reasonable usage. We believe that pet safety-related services should remain accessible and free when used appropriately.

While the API itself is offered at no cost, the infrastructure required to operate and maintain the service relies on third-party providers and operational resources that may incur costs.

API usage is subject to fair use limitations. Excessive, abusive, automated, or unusually high-volume usage may result in rate limiting, temporary suspension, or permanent revocation of access.

4. High-Volume Usage and Cost Responsibility

If you expect to generate a high volume of API requests, operate at scale, or require sustained usage beyond typical fair use limits, you must notify us in advance before such usage begins.

In cases where API usage results in measurable operational costs charged to us by third-party infrastructure or service providers, we reserve the right to require the requesting party to cover those costs.

Any usage that is abusive, excessive, or not previously agreed upon may result in suspension of access and, where applicable, recovery of incurred operational costs.

When requesting API access, we may agree on additional terms, usage limits, technical constraints, or cost arrangements on a case-by-case basis. These agreements may supplement these API Terms and will be discussed and confirmed during the access approval process.

5. Acceptable Use

By using the API, you agree to:

6. Prohibited Activities

The following activities are strictly prohibited:

Violations may result in immediate termination of API access and potential legal action where applicable.

7. Data Accuracy and Limitations

While we strive to maintain accurate and up-to-date data, Pet Trace does not guarantee the completeness, accuracy, or real-time availability of API responses. API results should be treated as informational and not as definitive proof of ownership or status.

8. Monitoring and Enforcement

To protect the integrity of the service, we may monitor API usage patterns, request volumes, and technical behavior. Monitoring is limited to operational and security purposes and is performed in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

9. Suspension and Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently revoke API access without notice if:

10. Limitation of Liability

The Pet Trace API is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, availability, or error-free operation of the API.

To the extent permitted by law, Pet Trace and Humaka SRL are not responsible for any direct or indirect damages, losses, or claims arising from the use of, or inability to use, the API. This includes, but is not limited to, service interruptions, incorrect responses, or reliance on API data.

Because the API is provided free of charge, no warranties are given, and no liability is assumed for any outcomes resulting from its use.

11. Changes to API Terms

We may update these API Terms at any time. Continued use of the API after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. It is your responsibility to review these terms periodically.

12. Governing Law

These API Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Romania. Any disputes arising from API usage shall fall under the jurisdiction of Romanian courts.
